Learning how to use the internet can be very confusing when you are first confronted
with a computer in front of you. The task for old and young can seem daunting until you recognise two basic
facts.
Don't be frightened of it.
You can't break it. To break your new computer you would have to drop it, spill
coffee or some other liquid over the keyboard, hard drive tower or mouse (all of which are replaceable and can be
easily avoided ~ Just keep liquids away)
YOU HAVE THE POWER.
This power is the ability to turn the machine on or off. The machine is not a living entity and can't switch
itself on or off and whenever you make a mistake, you can always turn the machine off and it defaults back to
start. So no matter what key you inadvertently hit, you can always default back to start.
Whoever installs your computer for you will have set you up with eMail. This is the
first thing and most common use of the internet today. After learning how to email you will probably want to surf
around and become familiar with going from one website to another. Click on all the keys and see what they do. Once
you feel comfortable and relaxed from doing this you will then be relaxed and ready for the next step.
The best way to learn how to do anything, and that is especially true for learning
how to use the Internet, is to practise. Practise gives you confidence and knowledge and once you fully understand
that you are in charge of whatever you do on the Internet, you will begin to understand what a really marvelous and
amazing invention you now have access to.
No matter what you want to do, no matter what your interests are, once you understand
the basics of how to use the internet through learning some basic internet lessons, you will be able to explore
knowledge from everywhere.
